Navratri and the Gujarati wedding calendar
Navratri in Ahmedabad runs nine days in October and is the largest Garba celebration in the world. Couples who plan weddings in the Navratri window gain extraordinary cultural energy but face peak pricing and a fully-committed vendor market. The week after Navratri (Diwali window) clears fast. November–February is the most reliable luxury-hotel availability window.
Gujarati wedding traditions: function by function
A full Gujarati wedding programme includes Mameru (maternal uncle's gift ceremony), Madhuparka (groom's reception at the bride's home), Vara Pooja, Garba night, Vidhi (wedding ceremonies) and Janvaas (groom's overnight stay). Each function has staging and timing requirements. The Garba night — which can run from 9pm to 4am in a traditional Gujarati programme — requires the most advance infrastructure planning of any single function.
International arrivals: AMD
- AMD operates direct services to London Gatwick, Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi — the principal routes for Ahmedabad's UK and Gulf Gujarati communities
